Aston Villa set to seal Amadou Onana deal this week

Aston Villa are set to complete the Amadou Onana deal by the end of this week. The midfielder will undergo his medical tests upon his return from his holidays.

According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa will finally seal the Amadou Onana deal this week once the player undergoes his medical tests. The 22-year-old midfielder has been on holiday following Belgium’s elimination from the Euros, as he will put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Villa Park.

Aston Villa to complete Amadou Onana deal

It has been a while since Aston Villa managed to agree a fee close to £50 million for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, and now things will move towards the concluding stages of this deal. The Belgian international has not returned to the UK following Belgium’s elimination from the Euros, as he enjoys his holidays.

He was expected to undergo his medical tests once he returned from his holidays, which might be the end of this week. Onana has been a fantastic performer for Everton since his big move from Lille two years ago, and now it appears he has taken a big jump towards playing Champions League football next season.

Aston Villa will look to seal the move this week once Onana returns from his post-Euro 2024 break and undergoes his medical tests. He will then put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Villa Park, as Unai Emery will have his Douglas Luiz replacement in place.

Luiz was sold to Juventus, and two stars from the Italian club joined Villa as part of the deal. That sale allowed the club to manage their PSR obligations, and now they have secured Onana as the Brazilian’s replacement. The 22-year-old midfielder brings ample physicality to a key position at the centre of the pitch that Luiz previously occupied.

Aston Villa are keen to strengthen their squad

Apart from Amadou Onana, Aston Villa are also looking at other players in this market, as Emery wants a good enough squad at the start of the new season. The additional burden of the Champions League will also play a significant role in building the team, as Emery is already looking for a new centre-back and wingers.

They could lose Moussa Diaby, and Aston Villa have re-entered the chase for Nico Williams. However, this signing is unlikely to come through amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and, more specifically, Barcelona. Overall, Emery is ready to make ruthless calls on some players and bring in suitable replacements to keep the balance in the squad intact.
