Oliver Skipp has no interest in dropping down to the EFL Championship, and he is likely to turn down Leeds United’s approach.
According to TEAMtalk, Oliver Skipp has no intention of joining Leeds United or any other Championship side. The 23-year-old Tottenham homegrown player has struggled for game time and a regular place in Ange Postecoglou’s side, and while he might leave the club, the intention is to join another top-flight side.
No Leeds United move for Oliver Skipp
Daniel Farke might be under a bit of pressure ahead of the upcoming EFL Championship season following the changes to his squad. Some regulars are likely to depart, while Archie Gray joined Tottenham on a permanent deal a few weeks earlier.
They did manage to sign Joe Rodon from Spurs and are angling for another player from the North Londoners. Leeds United are interested in Oliver Skipp, as Farke knows the player from his days as Norwich City’s boss. However, the 23-year-old Tottenham homegrown player is not keen to join the Whites or any other Championship side if he is to leave his current surroundings.
Apart from Gray, they could also lose Glenn Kamara to Rennes, which will further deplete Farke’s midfield options. Hence, the interest in Skipp, who represents a Premier League-level midfielder, could have a similar effect to Harry Winks’s move to Leicester City last summer from Tottenham.
However, the midfielder is not keen to drop down into a EFL Championship club and wants to continue playing in the top flight. Spurs are anticipating further interest, especially from Premier League sides, in the 23-year-old midfielder, as they are prepared to sell him for his homegrown status and for the fact that former Leeds star Gray will likely take his spot in the squad.
Tottenham will seek a permanent sale of Skipp
Skipp could be a player on the list of many Premier League sides, as he is already featured on Leeds United’s list. Spurs will have a significant price tag on their minds should they decide to sell Skipp along with others like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has some high-profile clubs chasing his signature.
Hence, should Spurs decide to sell, they will not entertain loan offers and instead will want a permanent solution to the 23-year-old homegrown player’s future. Even if Skipp had shown an interest in joining Leeds in the EFL Championship, the Whites might have been priced out of the deal anyway.
