Liverpool in transfer tussle to sign Mohamed Simakan, register interest

Liverpool are keen on exploring a move for Mohamed Simakan this summer as Arne Slot eyes centre-back signings.

According to Philipp Hinze of Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool are among the clubs showing interest in Mohamed Simakan in this window. The reporter also names Atletico Madrid as a suitor, as RB Leipzig might ask for a fee between €40-45 million for the French defender.

Mohamed Simakan on Liverpool’s radar

Liverpool are eager to strengthen their defensive ranks during the current transfer window, as Arne Slot considers the central areas key. A host of names have been linked in recent weeks since the Dutchman took over from Jurgen Klopp, and the manager might be looking at strengthening both the right and left sides of central defence.

Goncalo Inacio remains heavily linked with a move, as Liverpool badly lack a left-footed centre-half. However, they are also open to adding another right-footer, which explains the links to Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Either way, Arne Slot seems intent on signing at least one top-draw defender in this window, with Mohamed Simakan becoming the latest name to emerge on their radar. The RB Leipzig star has had previous links to the Premier League, and should Liverpool show an interest, it might be the biggest such from England.

Lzipzig are not overly keen to part ways, and the player himself seems happy to stay with the club. However, the Bundesliga giants will demand €40-45 million for the French defender to see whether clubs will make an offer in that range, which might prove sufficient to sell the defender.

Atletico Madrid rival Liverpool in Simakan chase

The report names Atletico Madrid as the other prominent suitor for Simakan, as the Rojiblancos are also looking for a new defender this summer. Premier League-linked Mario Hermoso has left the club as a free agent, and there are doubts about Jose Maria Gimenez’s future, meaning Diego Simeone will seek a new centre-back.

Simakan is young, and his ability to play right-back will allow Simeone to use him as part of a solid back-three team at Atletico Madrid. Much will depend on the club’s ability to pay the €40-45 million asking price set by Leipzig, as they could potentially rival Liverpool for the Frenchman’s signature this summer.
