Lazio are currently the favourites to take Mason Greenwood off Manchester United’s hands after the Marseille deal failed to materialise.
According to TEAMtalk, Lazio are the favourites to sign Mason Greenwood after he failed to join Marseille. Manchester United are eager to sell the controversial forward, with the Serie A giants now aiming to get a deal in place and open talks with the Red Devils.
Lazio to sign Mason Greenwood?
Lazio have found themselves in an excellent position to sign Mason Greenwood after recent events surrounding the forward. The controversial attacker is not welcomed at Manchester United, who are desperate to sell him and had agreed to a £27 million deal with Marseille to get him off their hands.
Much like earlier in the summer when Juventus were linked, their fans protested the likely arrival of the winger, and the Bianconeri subsequently called off the pursuit. There were reports about a move to Napoli. But that, too, has been dismissed.
Marseille agreed to a £27 million move for the attacker. But the city’s mayor and the club’s fans protested against the signing. A move to the Ligue 1 club has stalled, and there are no hopes of a revival in this case, which has given Lazio the impetus to reignite their interest.
Lazio were keen to make an offer before Marseille found an agreement. Now, they might make that bid for the controversial Manchester United prospect. Whether they will look to pay the same £27 million that Marseille found an agreement with or offer less remains to be seen, as the events surrounding Greenwood and the fact that clubs are bowing out of the race might force the Red Devils to reduce their asking price.
Lazio to open talks for Greenwood
Despite links to Napoli, Lazio are the front-runners for Greenwood as things stand. The Serie A giants could soon open talks with Manchester United over a move. A club delegation, including sporting director Angelo Fabiani, will meet Manchester United counterparts to broker a deal.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on what Lazio are willing to pay, as the club will surely take advantage of the forward’s market situation. Manchester United will be wary of that and will seek a fee close to the £27 million they agreed with Marseille not so long ago.
