Emerson Royal’s move to AC Milan appears to be in jeopardy as talks with Tottenham stalling over the €20 million-plus asking rate.
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan and Tottenham have stalled on talks over the transfer of Emerson Royal. Spurs are adamant about a €20 million-plus asking price for the unwanted Brazilian defender, having already rejected two approaches from the Rossoneri.
AC Milan’s move for Emerson Royal is in jeopardy
For weeks, reports have indicated that Emerson Royal’s move to AC Milan was more or less a done deal, pending an agreement on the fee with Tottenham. That alone could put this move on hold, as the Rossoneri have no intention of paying the €20 million-plus asking rate Spurs are currently demanding.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Spurs have already rejected two approaches. AC Milan were expected to make a new improved bid after seeing the first one turned down. The Rossoneri have been looking at the Tottenham utility man as a good enough option to add to their defensive setup. They have continued speaking with the North London side for a considerable period.
Emerson has his heart set on joining AC Milan and hopes the two clubs will reach an agreement. Tottenham had asked for €20-25 million for the defender, who may not have a place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans next season as the Australian plans to make critical changes.
With AC Milan unwilling to pay the asking price, they have seemingly put the brakes on the deal. Romano clearly states this is owing to the €20 million-plus asking price. Whether the two clubs revive these discussions remains to be seen, although the chances of him joining the Rossoneri will only depend on how much Spurs would compromise on the asking rate.
Should Tottenham lower their asking price?
Various reports can help gauge many factors about this deal. AC Milan are not keen on offering the required asking price that Spurs want, which could be very close to the €25 million rate. Instead, they are keen on signing the player for far less, possibly around €15 million, which does not seem acceptable to Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Spurs are known for their tough negotiators and have rarely moved away from their marker, especially regarding setting transfer fee. While they are not keen to hold on to Emerson Royal, the fact that Milan have somewhat stalled on talks should be seen as a warning sign by Tottenham, who might ideally not want to keep the defender beyond this summer window.
