Emerson Royal has heart set on joining AC Milan

Emerson Royal is convinced of the switch to AC Milan. The Italians are still negotiating with Tottenham over the price for the full-back.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Emerson Royal has his heart set on a move to AC Milan despite the slow negotiations between the two sides. Spurs are adamant over his asking price, something Milan is unwilling to pay, as discussions could bring new light in the coming period.

Emerson Royal to AC Milan has complications

Many weeks ago, AC Milan had positioned themselves as the favourites to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham. They have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the defender, with the Spurs man set to receive €2.5 million per year after tax, which might be what he has been earning in north London.

Royal has his heart set on a move to the San Siro and might have turned down proposals from elsewhere. Tottenham are not interested in the defender and had set an asking price of around €20-25 million for suitors to consider.

Milan are unwilling to pay around €25 million and instead believe they had the chance to convince the Spurs to reduce the asking price, owing to the player’s willingness to move. The situation might have backfired for the Italian giants, as Tottenham have already rejected a bid from the Rosoneri.

Milan and Spurs continue to discuss a potential transfer, as the Italian club might have underestimated Tottenham and their chairman, Daniel Levy, in the case of Royal. It remains to be seen how much they end up paying, as this deal could become complicated, which also opens the door for Milan to even back away if they cannot agree on a price point.

Are Milan under pressure in the Emerson deal?

There have been reports of other interested clubs in the Royal saga, with Tottenham refusing to budge over their asking price. There’s reported interest from Borussia Dortmund, seemingly open to paying €20 million or so for the 25-year-old utility player.

Should the Germans make the move, it will undoubtedly add pressure on Milan to increase their offer for the Brazilian defender. It remains to be seen how much Spurs are willing to budge on their asking price, with Milan looking to close it for as much cheaper as possible.
