Arsenal could entertain offers for Jakub Kiwior, as Mikel Arteta might reluctantly sanction the sale of the Polish defender.
According to Football Insider, Jakub Kiwior could be allowed to leave Arsenal this summer as the club are confident about landing Riccardo Calafiori. The decision to sell the 24-year-old utility man could be a reluctant one from Mikel Arteta, who believes in the talents of Polish internationals.
Arsenal’s defensive situation and Jakub Kiwior
There is much to ponder about how Mikel Arteta views his defensive setup ahead of the new season. While the Gunners were the highest defensive side in the Premier League last season, their manager appears intent on strengthening it further.
Despite suggestions that Arsenal have hit a roadblock in the deal for Riccardo Calafiori, there is utmost confidence in the market that they will land the Italian. When that happens, they might have to allow one of their current stars to leave, with Jakub Kiwior’s name at the forefront of their shortlist.
With Calafiori’s addition, Arteta can juggle between defensive formations and maximise his personnel depending on the game situation. They have nearly five players who can play left-back, including Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, Kieran Tierney, Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
With Tierney likely to depart, Arteta might view Tomiyasu as a cover for central defence and Ben White as the right-back. Zinchenko continues to offer a tactically different option that none of the others are capable of, meaning Kiwior might be the one to get sold, as Arteta might make a reluctant decision on the 24-year-old utility man, who cost them £20 million.
Heavy Italian interest in Kiwior
Another reason Kiwior might leave ahead of Zinchenko is because the 24-year-old Polish international has a big market, unlike the Ukrainian international. Some big Italian clubs keep constant tabs on Kiwior, with Inter Milan being one of those keen.
Juventus also consider him an alternative to Calafiori, who will likely join Arsenal in the coming period. Hence, the Serie A clubs could offer a solid way out for the Polish international, who cost Arsenal around £20 million 18 months ago.
