Manchester United agree deal with Villarreal for the sale of Willy Kambwala

Villarreal have acquired the services of Manchester United academy graduate Willy Kambwala in a deal worth €10 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have agreed on a deal with Villarreal to sanction the departure of their young defensive sensation Willy Kambwala. The French youth international is all set to undergo a medical with his new club following which an official confirmation of the transfer should arrive.

Kambwala joined the Manchester-based club’s youth ranks towards the end of 2020. He started with the Under-18s and managed to break into the first team at the start of the year. The 19-year-old centre-back featured in 10 matches for the senior team last season as they struggled with an injury crisis at the back.

His impressive rise caught the attention of Erik ten Hag and the club even offered their academy graduate a new deal but he rejected the offer. Kambwala seeks a new challenge elsewhere as he is unlikely to be a first-team regular at United.

While Raphael Varane’s departure and the uncertain future of some of their key defenders has made room for someone to step up, United are looking at the market to strengthen the position and they are in talks with multiple world-class centre-backs.

Villarreal agree deal with United for Kambwala

With Kambwala’s contract running out in 12 months, the Red Devils prefer raising funds from his departure rather than losing him for free. Reports have suggested that the French defender is keen on making the move to Spain and Villarreal are the ones who have been going all out to sign the defensive sensation.

They have been in negotiations with United for weeks and have finally managed to strike a deal. Both clubs have agreed terms and Willy Kambwala is expected to soon complete his move to the Yellow Submarine. The Spanish outfit will pay just €10 million to complete his signing.

The teenager will pen down a five-year deal and his medical has already been booked. While United have allowed him to leave on the cheap, they have a buy-back clause in place which can be used to bring him back once he is ready for regular first-team action.
