PSG set to demand £70 million to sell Xavi Simons

Manchester United will have to fork out £70 million in order to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons.

According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are plotting a shock move for the services of former Barcelona youth star Xavi Simons. Erik ten Hag looks keen on bringing the Dutch international to Old Trafford having seen him perform consistently for club and country over the past 12 months.

Simons was a part of Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia back in the day before he switched to PSG in the summer of 2019. He did leave the French giants for PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer in 2022 but they bought him back for £5 million next summer.

He spent the last season on loan at RB Leipzig and was one of their standout performers with 10 goals and 15 assists in his 43 outings. He even had an impressive Euro 2024 campaign with the Netherlands which came to an end with a defeat against England in the semi-finals.

Manchester United plot surprise move for Simons

With the tournament now over, Simons will be deciding his future amidst a significant amount of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils want to reinforce their attack and their manager feels the Barcelona youth product could do wonders for them.

Not only can he cover for Bruno Fernandes, but the Dutch international can feature on either flank which will surely add a lot of firepower to their ranks. He seems to have the ideal profile for Ten Hag’s team but signing him won’t be that straightforward.

PSG want £70 million for Simons

PSG are yet to make a decision on the future of the 21-year-old who still has three years left on his deal. But, with the player keen on regular first-team action, a departure could be on the cards.

It will depend on whether Luis Enquire wants to incorporate him into his plans. At this point, there are still doubts about his place in the Spanish manager’s team given the amount of options he already has and a few more to arrive.

While PSG could sanction his departure this summer, it will most likely be a loan with a buy obligation as PSV have a percentage on future sale clause that expires at the end of this year. While they did re-sign him from the Dutch club for just £5 million, the French giants would want around £70 million to sanction Simons’ departure.
