Crystal Palace submit offer for Marcus Edwards

Crystal Palace have reportedly tabled a bid for Marcus Edwards, with Sporting CP likely to turn it down for more money.

According to Record via Sport Witness, Crystal Palace have made a €15 million offer to sign former Spurs man Marcus Edwards. Sporting CP are expected to turn it down in favour of a higher fee, something the Eagles will have to work out if their interest is concrete in the €25-30 million-rated Englishman.

Crystal Palace make Marcus Edwards offer

Crystal Palace are confident of bringing Marcus Edwards as recent developments make them one of the favourable sides to land the winger. The Eagles need a right winger since Michael Olise has departed for Bayern Munich, and the club will look to maximise the market by getting in players who represent value rather than a large sum of money in transfer fees.

Marcus Edwards has had a difficult period at Sporting CP, where he’s no longer a preferred starter for Ruben Amorim. The club that once demanded significantly for the winger may have conceded that selling him for a decent price might work out for them, with the English attacker keen on moving to the Premier League

Palace has been interested in Edwards for a while, and their immediate need to replace Olise might have propelled them into making an offer. The Eagles have reportedly made a €15 million bid to sign the winger, although this proposal seems destined for rejection from Sporting, which wants a fee between €25-50 million.

It may appear ambitious for the player, who has dropped significantly over the last six months. Hence, for Palace to get it over the line, a fee between €25-30 million might do the trick. There’s also some reported interest from Saudi Arabia, although the player might prefer a switch to the Premier League, which could play in Palace’s favour in this race.

Tottenham are out of Edwards race

Tottenham were considered the frontrunners for the winger, considering he was their former player. Their contract has a 35% sell-on clause, which was initially 50%, although Sporting CP managed to bring it down during the negotiations for Pedro Porro.

Edwards would prefer a switch to Tottenham, although the north Londoners are not as enthusiastic as they were before about the winger. Hence, there’s a big likelihood that they might have bowed out of the race silently, as the €25-30 million-rated Englishman may no longer feature in their plans going forward.
