Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are closing in on the signature Bayern Munich defensive star Matthijs de Ligt.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Matthijs de Ligt is keen on reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. The €50 million-rated Dutch centre-back has informed Bayern Munich about his desire to make a move to Old Trafford and he already has a verbal agreement in place with the Red Devils. Both clubs are in advanced negotiations, and they could soon agree terms.
De Ligt made quite a name for himself as a teenager as he led a young Ajax team to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The 24-year-old seemed destined for greatness but unfortunately, he has not been able to return to his best in recent seasons.
The move to Juventus did not work out as planned, and things have not been that great for Matthijs de Ligt at Bayern Munich as well. While the Dutchman still has three years left on his deal with the Bundesliga club, he has been linked with a move away from the club.
Manchester United keen on Matthijs de Ligt
Manchester United are pushing hard for Matthijs de Ligt’s signature. The Red Devils are expected to make multiple centre-back signings ahead of next season as they look to reinforce their backline. With Raphael Varane no longer at the club, they are keen on bringing de Ligt to Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is a big admirer of the Dutch international having worked with him at Ajax, and he feels the 24-year-old could be the ideal signing for the club. Not only will Matthijs de Ligt boost their defensive strength, but his leadership skills will also come in handy for Manchester United.
De Light to Manchester United could be a done deal by next week
The former Juventus defender is keen on making the move and has informed Bayern about his desire. He has verbally agreed on a long-term contract with Manchester United, who are in advanced talks with the Bundesliga club to complete his signing.
His agent Rafaela Pimenta is now working on the final details to get things over the line. While a medical has not yet been booked, Christian Falk suggests the negotiations are already underway, and an agreement could be secured by next week. There is not much difference between the valuations of the two clubs with Bayern Munich looking for €50 million with add-ons.
