Serie A giants SS Lazio have reportedly advanced their talks with Nuno Tavares over personal terms, with the 24-year-old Arsenal full-back closing in on moving to Italy.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nuno Tavares is the subject of interest from Lazio. The Serie A giants are keen on signing the Arsenal full-back in the summer transfer window, with the two clubs having an agreement. They have now advanced talks with the 24-year-old on personal terms.
Nuno Tavares and his Arsenal anguish
Nuno Tavares has struggled to make his mark since joining Arsenal from Benfica in July 2021. A native of Lisbon, he spent his formative years in his hometown, passing through the academies at Casa Pia AC and Sporting CP before graduating from the youth division at SL Benfica a few years ago.
The 24-year-old arrived at the Emirates with some hype surrounding him after he showed some promising signs at Benfica. However, Tavares has failed to make his mark at Arsenal, spending the last two seasons away from the North London club after a dreadful debut campaign.
Nottingham Forest signed Tavares on loan from Arsenal last summer, but he managed only 696 minutes of game time across 12 appearances. While the Portuguese wide man has returned to the Emirates, he does not have a future at Arsenal. And his next destination might be Serie A, with Lazio closing in on securing his services.
Serie A move on the cards?
Lazio’s interest in Nuno Tavares is understandable. The Serie A giants have been scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Luca Pellegrini, who has recently emerged as a target for Premier League clubs.
Tavares has thus emerged as a target for Lazio, with the Biancocelesti already reaching an agreement with Arsenal over a summer deal. The Serie A giants have now advanced the talks with the 24-year-old full-back on personal terms.
With talks between the struggling Portuguese defender and Lazio advancing, an agreement might not be far. It will be interesting to see if Tavares ends his Arsenal horrors by moving to Italy in the coming weeks.
