Everton will reportedly compete in a three-way Premier League battle with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest for 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis.
According to a report by Jornal de Noticias, Florentino Luis is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are one of three Premier League clubs that are keen on signing the SL Benfica midfielder in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Portuguese giants might demand around €30 million to part ways with the 24-year-old midfielder.
Florentino Luis and his topsy-turvy ride at SL Benfica
Florentino Luis has endured a topsy-turvy since breaking into the first-team squad at SL Benfica. A native of Lobito, Angola, he was eligible to represent the country of his birth internationally but turned out for Portugal in age-group football. Meanwhile, he began his youth career at Real SC before joining Benfica in 2010.
The 24-year-old progressed through the ranks at SL Benfica before breaking into the first-team squad in February 2019. However, Luis had to wait until the 2022/23 season to become a regular for the Eagles, with loan spells at AS Monaco and Getafe benefiting him. However, the player’s stock fell again in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Portuguese midfielder managed only 2,500 minutes of game time across 45 appearances in all competitions, starting just 26 games. However, Florentino Luis’s stock in the market remains high, with several Premier League clubs, including Everton, vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Florentino Luis is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Amadou Onana. So, several candidates, including Matt O’Riley, have emerged on Everton’s radar.
Luis is also a viable target, with the 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder on their radar for a long time. However, Everton will be in a three-way Premier League battle for the Benfica midfielder, with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest also vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Luis will not cost a bomb in the summer transfer window, with Benfica likely to demand around €30 million to part ways with him. Everton can afford that sum if they sell Onana in the coming weeks. So, it will be interesting to see where the Portuguese midfielder plies his trade in the 2024/25 season.
