West Ham United eyeing Callum Wilson swoop

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 32-year-old English striker Callum Wilson from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Ben Jacobs on 90min, Callum Wilson is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. The Newcastle United striker has thus emerged as a target, with the Tyneside outfit demanding around £15-20 million to part ways with him.

The Callum Wilson story

Callum Wilson has been a dependable performer since joining Newcastle United from Bournemouth in September 2020. The Englishman has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since the Cherries secured their first promotion to the top flight, often embarking on phases where he has scored goals for fun.

The 32-year-old has struggled with several fitness issues during his spell with Newcastle United. However, Wilson has delivered the goods whenever he has taken the pitch, amassing 48 goals and 11 assists in 108 appearances thus far for the Tyneside outfit.

However, the English striker faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park after entering the final year of his contract with Newcastle United. The Magpies are ready to part ways with him in the summer transfer window and will demand around £15-20 million to sell him. Meanwhile, a move across the Premier League might be on the cards for Wilson, who has emerged as a target for West Ham United.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Callum Wilson is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window due to the advancing age of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings. The latter, in particular, has failed to make his mark, with a return to Southampton on the cards.

Several strikers, including Artem Dovbyk, have thus emerged on West Ham United’s radar, with Wilson also a viable target. However, the 32-year-old Englishman will only be a short-term solution for the East London club.

While Wilson will not cost a bomb, with Newcastle United demanding £15-20 million to sell him, his fitness record and advancing age count against him. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham will launch the offensive to sign the England international in the summer transfer window.
