Manchester United poised to make third offer for Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United are expected to return with a third offer for Jarrad Branthwaite as they target key defensive additions.

According to The Times, Manchester United are likely to return with a third offer for Jarrad Branthwaite. Everton have so far rejected two bids for their prized defender. The Red Devils are not keen to bow out of the race, as Erik ten Hag remains intent on bolstering his defensive ranks.

Manchester United to make third Jarrad Branthwaite bid

Manchester United are serious about bolstering their defence ahead of the summer, with the club angling for moves for multiple players in the market. While they are attacking the market for various options, Jarrad Branthwaite has been their priority target all along.

Manchester United made a lowball £35 million offer to begin with, which Everton did not hesitate to reject swiftly. The Red Devils had gone quiet while chasing other names, but Branthwaite remained on top of their list. They launched a second offer worth £50 million, including add-ons, which was again rejected by the Toffees.

Everton are seeking at least £70 million for their prized asset in this window and will not entertain lowly offers for Branthwaite. Manchester United consider that price point high, but they will return with a third offer to test the Toffees. They already have an agreement on a £160,000-per-week salary for Branthwaite and hope to add him to their backline.

Should the Red Devils come close to the £70 million-rated defensive target’s asking price, Everton might consider accepting it. However, if the new offer falls within the range of United’s second one, the Toffees will not hesitate to reject a third proposal for their key man.

Manchester United seeking defensive reinforcements

Matthijs de Ligt is closing in on a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, while the Red Devils are clearly looking for at least two new centre-backs. While the Branthwaite saga continues to evolve, the club had made a €50 million bid for Leny Yoro, which Lille accepted. But the Frenchman wants a move to Real Madrid.

As things stand, de Ligt is in the bag for Manchester United, who would want another defender, especially one of Yoro and Branthwaite.
