Manchester United inch closer to landing Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United are reportedly “closer and closer” to landing 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reputed French journalist Santi Aouna, Manuel Ugarte is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on landing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder in the summer transfer window. And they are “closer and closer” to signing the 23-year-old from the Ligue 1 champions.

Manuel Ugarte and his PSG exasperation

Manuel Ugarte has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting CP in a deal worth €60 million last summer. The Uruguayan international was a hot property in the market after a solid spell with Sporting CP, with the Ligue 1 champions winning the race to sign him.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid start to his spell with PSG, and he was a regular for Les Parisiens in the first half of the 2023/24 season. However, Ugarte’s game time gradually dropped, and he was in and out of the starting lineup in the final months of the campaign, meaning he could not manage even 2,500 minutes of game time across 37 appearances in all competitions.

However, Manuel Ugarte’s stock in the market remains high despite his dwindling game time at PSG. The former Sporting CP midfielder’s situation has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs across Europe. But Manchester United should be his next destination in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United keen on signing Ugarte

Manchester United’s interest in Manuel Ugarte is understandable. The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a holding midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after Casemiro struggled in the 2023/24 season. So, the PSG midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

Recent reports have claimed that the 23-year-old Ligue 1 winner would love to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The latest update has revealed that Ugarte is “closer and closer” to moving to Old Trafford.

PSG will likely look to recoup most of the €60 million they paid to secure Manuel Ugarte’s services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are ready to cough up close to €60 million to land the Uruguayan international.
