Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the progress of 20-year-old Spanish midfield prospect Fer Lopez at fellow La Liga club Celta Vigo.
According to Spanish journalist Rodra P, Fer Lopez is gaining popularity in the market in the summer transfer window. Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the clubs closely monitoring the progress of the 20-year-old midfield prospect at their fellow La Liga club, Celta Vigo.
Who is Fer Lopez?
Fernando López González, better known as Fer Lopez, is the latest highly-rated prospect to emerge from Celta Vigo’s youth division. The Galician giants have produced many prodigies in the last few years, including Gabri Veiga and Hugo Sotelo, with both players attracting high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
As for Lopez, he is a native of Madrid but has graduated from the youth division at Celta Vigo. The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade and currently represents Celta Vigo Fortuna, turning out 34 times thus far for the reserve side while chipping in with seven goals and three assists.
While the Spaniard has yet to break into the first-team squad at Celta Vigo, his stock is high, with several high-profile clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. The update by Rodra P has mentioned Juventus and Villarreal as his prospective suitors. However, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also vying for the signature of the Spanish midfield prospect.
Will Lopez join Barcelona or Real Madrid?
Barcelona’s interest in Fer Lopez is understandable. The Catalan giants constantly scour the market for highly-rated young prospects, with the outlook helping them fetch current regular starters like Pedri and Gavi. Lopez can also be a long-term midfield solution alongside the Spanish duo.
As for Real Madrid, they, like Barcelona, have a wide scouting network that brings the names of the best prospects in the world on their radar. That has helped Real Madrid ensure a smooth transition from one generation to the next. Lopez can do that for the midfield unit, with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career.
However, Barcelona and Real Madrid must be wary of Juventus and Villarreal’s presence in the equation. Those two clubs are also attractive destinations for the 20-year-old Spanish midfield prospect. So, it will be interesting to see if his spell at Celta Vigo ends in the summer transfer window.
