Joan Laporta driving Barcelona move for Nico Williams

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is pushing hard to sign Nico Williams amidst interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to a report from HITC, Joan Laporta is keen on having Nico Williams at Barcelona ahead of next season. He has instructed the Barcelona hierarchy to do everything in their power to bring the Athletic Club star to Camp Nou amidst interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool.

Williams has made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks at Athletic. He has been an integral part of their first team in the recent season. During the 2023/24 campaign, he was involved in 37 games and ended up contributing towards 27 goals (8 goals, 19 assists).

At just 21, he is already a mainstay at both club and country. Williams is doing exceptionally well at Euro 2024 as he has played his part in Spain reaching the last four of the continental tournament. His performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Arsenal and Liverpool keen on Nico Williams

Arsenal and Liverpool are two English clubs keen on his signature. Both clubs are looking to strengthen the flanks, and they feel the Spanish international could be a sensational signing for both the short as well as the long run.

While Arsenal and Liverpool have informed Williams that they are ready to trigger his €58 million release clause, the Spaniard is not interested in a move to England, he seems to have his heart set on a move to Catalan giants Barcelona.

Williams wants to join Barcelona

The Athletic Club winger wants to move to Camp Nou, and he has been on the radar of the Catalan giants for a long time. Their new head coach Hansi Flick is an admirer of Williams and has confirmed to the club president that he would love to have him at his disposal.

With the Basque outfit not ready to negotiate anything lower than his release clause, Barcelona will first have to offload a few of their players to afford to sign the 21-year-old. They are ready to part ways with Raphinha and Ferran Torres and have informed them about their decision.

With Laporta pushing for Nico Williams’s signing, the Catalan giants are expected to give it their all. His arrival could be a huge boost for them as it could sort out their problems on the left flank for the long run.
