West Ham United set to sign Max Kilman in £40 million deal

Max Kilman is on the verge of joining West Ham United from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £40 million this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Max Kilman has been the subject of interest from West Ham United heading into the summer transfer window. Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly wanted £50 million to sell their club captain. However, the Hammers have sealed an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers on a deal worth £40 million.

Max Kilman and his rise at Molineux

Max Kilman has enjoyed a splendid rise in prominence since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Maidenhead United in August 2018. The Englishman has been a mainstay at the back for the Black Country outfit in the last half a dozen years and has become a leadership figure in recent seasons.

The 26-year-old became the club captain at the Molineux before the 2023/24 season began after Ruben Neves and Conor Coady departed last summer. Meanwhile, Kilman has turned out over 150 times thus far for the Black Country outfit, chipping in with three goals and three assists.

However, the English defender has played his final game for Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a move across the Premier League on the cards. West Ham United will be Kilman’s next destination after the East London club produced an improved offer to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

London calling

West Ham United’s interest in Max Kilman is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window after losing Angelo Ogbonna as a free agent. In addition, Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma face an uncertain future at the London Stadium.

So, it behoved West Ham to invest in a centre-back, with Kilman emerging as the East London club’s top target. The Hammers now have their man after striking an agreement on a deal worth £40 million with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Black Country outfit wanted £50 million to sell the 26-year-old Englishman, according to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC.

However, the Hammers have struck a deal worth £40 million instead of £50 million. Kilman should undergo his medical soon and complete a move across the Premier League in the coming days, becoming the third summer signing after Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham.
