West Ham United have reportedly failed with a bid for Jean-Clair Todibo, as their €35 million offer is below OGC Nice’s asking price.
According to L’Equipe, West Ham Unite saw a €35 million bid turned down by OGC Nice for Jean-Clair Todibo. The Hammers are keen on recruiting a top-notch central defender in this window, and their offer has not met the French side’s asking price for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 star.
West Ham failed with Jean-Clair Todibo’s bid
West Ham are aggressively searching for a new top-notch defender this window and have tried their hand on multiple targets so far.Jean-Clair Todibo becomes the latest on their list, as the Hammes have already failed with a bid for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 star.
West Ham reportedly saw a €35 million bid turned down by OGC Nice, for the figure is below their asking price for the Frenchman. Todibo seems to be keen to take on a new challenge and might have preferred a move to Manchester United, but only because UEFA rules prevent a potential transfer.
Manchester United are exploring legal avenues to get a deal in place, but it may not materialise. Hence, West Ham might feel they have a chance, although any desire from the player to join the Hammers will play a big role in this pursuit.
Aston Villa are also keen and in a good position to offer Champions League football next season, something the Hammers cannot provide. Hence, it will take a monumental offer as well as an effort from West Ham to convince Todibo of a move to the London Stadium, and a clear indication of that might come in the form of an improved offer to test Nice’s resolve.
West Ham chasing a central defender
Having seen their offer turned down by Brazilian defender Fabricio Bruno early on, West Ham have swiftly moved to other targets. They have since seen a bid rejected by Wolves for Max Kilman, as the Hammers are set to submit a new offer for the centre-back.
Fenerbahce’s Jayden Oosterwolde is also a target, and the Hammers may have to shell €25-30 million to sign the Dutch defender. Julen Lopetegui remains intent on bringing a central defender on priority, and whether that will be Todibo remains to be seen.
