La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 16-year-old Belgian youth international Konstantinos Karetsas from KRC Genk.
According to a report by Greek outlet Sport 24, Konstantinos Karetsas is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions have been monitoring the Belgian youth international for a long time, with their scouting trips intensifying in recent times. However, the KRC Genk prodigy’s progress has also alerted other top clubs.
Who is Konstantinos Karetsas?
Konstantinos Karetsas is the latest Belgian wonderkid to rise in prominence in the country. There has been widespread speculation surrounding highly-rated prospects from Belgium, with Arthur Vermeeren joining Atletico Madrid, Romeo Lavia moving twice across the Premier League, and Jorthy Mokio attracting interest from Barcelona before Ajax beat the Catalan outfit.
Kartesas has now emerged as a target for a top club, with Real Madrid keeping tabs on his progress. A native of Genk, the 16-year-old is eligible to represent Belgium and Greece at the international stage but has turned out for the former in age-group football. Meanwhile, he has passed through the academies at As VV and Anderlecht before returning to KRC Genk last year.
The teenage sensation has already made his first-team debut for KRC Genk, turning out four times thus far for the senior side. The Belgian youth international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid move on the horizon?
Real Madrid’s interest in Konstantinos Kartesas is understandable. The Merengues constantly scour the market for highly-rated prodigies, with the outlook allowing the club to ensure a smooth transition from one generation to the next. That continues without fail every year, with the latest reports linking Real Madrid with Leny Yoro and Franco Mastantuono, among others.
Kartesas might not be ready to represent the first team if he joins Real Madrid, unlike Yoro. However, the 16-year-old attacking midfielder has the quality and potential to eventually gradate from the reserve side to the first-team squad.
The reigning La Liga champions have closely monitoring Konstantinos Karetsas’s progress for a long time. It will be interesting to see if they launch the offensive to secure the services of the 16-year-old Belgian youth international anytime soon.
