Crystal Palace in transfer tussle to sign Jordan Torunarigha

Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old German-born African defender Jordan Torunarigha from KAA Gent in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by German outlet BILD, Jordan Torunarigha is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And the South London club will compete with Torino to sign the German-born African defender from KAA Gent.

Who is Jordan Torunarigha?

Jordan Torunarigha has been excellent since joining KAA Gent from Hertha BSC in 2022. A native of Chemnitz, he began his youth career at his local club, Chemnitzer FC, before joining Hertha BSC in 2006. The 26-year-old spent his formative years in Germany and represented the country in age-group football. However, he has picked Nigeria as his national side.

With a senior international career with Germany not possible, Torunarigha made his bow for Nigeria last year. Meanwhile, the player has turned out over 100 times thus far for KAA Gent while chipping in with four goals and five assists. The Nigerian international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.

The report by BILD has mentioned Torino as one of the prospective suitors to secure Jordan Torunarigha’s services in the summer transfer window. However, a move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Crystal Palace vying for his signature.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Jordan Torunarigha is understandable. The Eagles have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window due to the uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Marc Guehi, who features on the radar of several high-profile clubs.

So, it behoves Crystal Palace to invest in a centre-back, with Aster Vranckx among the targets. However, Torunarigha is also an option worth considering, with the South London club competing with Torino for the 26-year-old German-born African defender’s signature.

An adventure in the Premier League might be in the pipeline for the experienced defender. It will be interesting to see if Torunarigha becomes a top target for Crystal Palace as they look to sign him from KAA Gent.
