Everton set to confirm Iliman Ndiaye capture

Everton and Ligue 1 giants Marseille have reportedly secured an agreement over a deal worth €20 million for 24-year-old striker Iliman Ndiaye.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Iliman Ndiaye has been the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. And they are on the verge of completing a deal worth €20 million for the 24-year-old Marseille attacker.

Iliman Ndiaye and his Marseille travails

Iliman Ndiaye blew hot and cold after joining Marseille from Sheffield United in a deal worth €17 million. Losing the Senegalese international was a big blow for the Blades’ prospects as they lost their most productive attacker, which eventually affected their 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old was not a first-choice starter for Marseille, as he manages less than 2,500 minutes of game time across 46 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals and five assists. That is not an impressive figure for a striker, although his stock has not taken a beating in the last 12 months.

The former Sheffield United striker has been a target for Premier League clubs heading into the summer transfer window. Iliman Ndiaye’s next destination will be the English top flight, with Everton on the cusp of completing a summer move worth €20 million.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Iliman Ndiaye is understandable, even if it is somewhat surprising. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window, even though they have three centre-forwards in the first-team squad. However, recent developments suggest Everton might need a new striker ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is closing in on joining Newcastle United in the summer transfer window as a long-term replacement for Callum Wilson. So, Ndiaye is a viable target, with Everton on the verge of announcing a deal worth €20 million to sign the Senegalese international from Ligue 1 club Marseille.

Despite Iliman Ndiaye’s struggles at the Ligue 1 club last season, coughing up €20 million to secure the 24-year-old striker’s services is understandable. It will be interesting to see if he can resurrect his stuttering career at Goodison Park in the 2024/25 season.
