Rising Premier League giants Aston Villa have reportedly submitted an enquiry for 25-year-old Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Jaka Bijol is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have enquired about the 25-year-old Udinese defender.
Who is Jaka Bijol?
Jaka Bijol has been one of the most underrated centre-backs in Serie A since joining Udinese from CSKA Moscow in July 2022. A native of Vuzenica, he spent his formative years in his homeland, graduating from the youth division at NK Bravo. However, he struggled for stability until he joined Udinese.
The 25-year-old has turned out over 50 times thus far for Udinese, chipping in with three goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Bijol has been impressive at UEFA Euro 2024, playing every minute of Slovenia’s campaign before they bowed out in the penalty shootouts in the round of 16 against Portugal.
Meanwhile, Jaka Bijol’s progress at Udinese has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors for the Slovenian international heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Jaka Bijol is understandable. The Villans have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. Clement Lenglet’s loan spell has ended, and the French defender has returned to Barcelona after Aston Villa chose not to complete a permanent transfer.
So, several centre-backs, including David Hancko, have emerged on Aston Villa’s radar over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Bijol is also a viable target, with the West Midlands club submitting an enquiry to ask for information about the 25-year-old Udinese defender and sign him from the Serie A club.
It will be interesting to see if Bijol becomes the top target for Aston Villa to bolster the central defensive unit in the summer transfer window. For now, the Slovenian international has emerged as a target, already submitting an enquiry.
