Manchester United are reportedly favourites to sign Miguel Gutierrez in the summer, as Erik ten Hag eyes a new left-back.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are reportedly leading the chase for Miguel Gutierrez and are ahead of their rivals. There is considerable interest in the Girona full-back, with Real Madrid one of the clubs keen, although Erik ten Hag could get his man.
Manchester United favourites for Miguel Gutierrez?
Erik ten Hag might prioritise a new left-back whom he can rely on all fronts, mainly to stay fit throughout the season. The Dutch manager suffered from the lack of availability of both his left-backs, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, with the former missing the whole season with an injury.
Ten Hag has shown the likelihood of using Shaw in a central defensive position, which could see him bring a new left-back to give his defensive side more options. Manchester United are interested in Miguel Gutierrez and is currently favourites to land the 22-year-old full-back from La Liga club Girona.
Gutierrez had a fantastic season with Girona and has plenty of interest from elsewhere. However, the Red Devils are currently considered front runners, as they will have to negotiate through discussions with Girona over their fee demands for the 22-year-old full-back.
Girona will ask for a considerable fee, given that Real Madrid hold a 50% sell-on clause in Gutierrez’s contract. Hence, Manchester Untied, should they make their interest concrete, must offer a big enough fee for Girona to consider, as there is certainly big interest from the Red Devils.
Real Madrid have a big upper hand in Gutierrez’s chase
There have been reports stating that Real Madrid are still considering Gutierrez as an alternative to Alphonso Davies. Still, so far, they have yet to give enough hits about any possible pursuit. However, they do have the upper hand given the 50% sell-on clause they have rights over, meaning they could sign him for half of what Girona would want for the 22-year-old.
Hence, Manchester United must hope Real Madrid walks away from this particular pursuit, as the Red Devils will have no chance should Florentino Perez decide to bring Gutierrez back to the club.
