According to Fabrizio Romano, Como are dreaming about signing Raphael Varane this summer. The newly promoted Italian club are looking to bolster their defence and they feel the former French international could be a sensational acquisition for them.

After a decade-long stint at Real Madrid where he won almost every trophy available, Varane made the move to Manchester United in the summer of 2021 in search of a new challenge. But, the move to the Red Devils didn’t really go according to plan for him.

He struggled with injuries throughout and could only feature in 95 matches over the last three years. With the 31-year-old struggling to stay fit, the Red Devils decided against renewing his contract at the club. The Manchester-based club have already confirmed his departure and the player is now on the lookout for his next destination.

Como dream of signing Varane

Varane is currently a free agent and since he still has a few years left in him, multiple clubs from across the globe are interested in his services. Como who recently got promoted to the Serie A dream about signing the Varane.

After having a sensational campaign in the second division, they are now looking to make the necessary additions to ensure they survive in the Italian top flight. Strengthening the backline is one of the priorities for the club and they feel bringing in someone with Varane’s experience could do wonders for their squad as a whole.

They have been working on a potential transfer to sign the former Real Madrid star who is available for free. Varane has landed in Como and he will be holding face-to-face talks with the club over a potential move. He will first speak to the club’s board before having a chat with their assistant coach Cesc Fabregas.

It will be interesting to see how the talks between the two parties progress. Given the kind of wages Varane was paid at United, the salary side of things could make things complicated.
