Aston Villa make offer to sign Mathis Lambourde

Rising Premier League giants Aston Villa have reportedly offered €5 million to sign 18-year-old French attacking sensation Mathis Lambourde from Stade Rennais.

According to a report by Abdel Hamed, Mathis Lambourde is the subject of interest from Aston Villa over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Villans have submitted a bid worth €5 million to sign the 18-year-old attacking sensation from Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais. However, it is unclear if the offer will yield the desired result.

Who is Mathis Lambourde?

Mathis Lambourde has emerged as the latest highly-rated prospect to emerge in his homeland and rise in prominence. A native of Les Lilas, he began his youth career at Cosmos Saint-Denis FC before passing through the academies at Lilas FC, Paris Saint-Germain, and JA Drancy before joining Stade Rennais in 2021.

The French teenage sensation rapidly rose through the ranks at Stade Rennais before breaking into the first-team squad in September 2023. However, the 18-year-old has managed only 17 minutes of game time across three appearances for the senior side, primarily turning out for the reserve team.

Nevertheless, Mathis Lambourde’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Aston Villa among the Frenchman’s prospective suitors heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Mathis Lambourde is understandable. The Villans are focusing on creating a young core for the long-term benefit of the club. They have already signed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, with Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea on the verge of arriving at Villa Park.

Lambourde has now emerged as a viable target, with Aston Villa likely considering him as a long-term replacement for the in-demand Jhon Duran. The Villans have intensified their efforts to sign the 18-year-old French sensation by submitting a bid worth €5 million to sign him from Stade Rennais.

It is unclear if the bid worth €5 million will do the trick and convince the Ligue 1 club to part ways with Lambourde, with the update not providing any clarity on it. So, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can land the Frenchman in the coming weeks.
