Aston Villa and West Ham United are ready to battle it out for the services of Spanish midfielder Gabri Veiga.

According to a report from Fichajes, Aston Villa and West Ham United are both keen on signing Gabri Veiga ahead of next season. The former Celta Vigo youth product has done well in the Middle East but is looking to make a return to Europe and the English clubs are willing to battle for his signature.

Veiga had an impressive rise at the Spanish club, he was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022. He had a sensational debut season and on the back of it, multiple top clubs from across Europe were keen on signing him.

To everyone’s surprise, the Spanish youth international decided to make the move to the Middle East. He joined Al-Ahli last summer in a deal worth €30 million. He was involved in 18 league games last season and managed to contribute towards seven goals.

While things have been going great for the versatile midfielder on the pitch, he reportedly wants to make a return to Europe for the 2024/25 season. Veiga would love to make a return to his childhood club but there is interest from the Premier League as well.

Aston Villa & West Ham to battle for Veiga

Aston Villa and West Ham United both are interested in the services of the 22-year-old as they look to bolster their midfield. Unai Emery’s team want to strengthen their squad as they prepare to compete in the Champions League. They want to bring in young players with potential and they feel Veiga is an ideal fit for their team.

His ability to create chances and his effectiveness in the final third have caught the attention of Emery’s team. With the Hammers also keen on his signature, Villa are preparing themselves for a transfer battle. The London club’s coach Julen Lopetegui is a big admirer of the Spanish midfielder and would love to have him at his disposal.

He is known to develop young players and Veiga could easily slot into his system. Lopetegui feels his abilities and vision could be of great help. Meanwhile, the West Ham project could be a great opportunity for the player to continue his progress.

Al-Ahli invested €30 million to bring him to the club and with still two years left on his deal, it will be interesting to see what is their stance on his future.
