Zinedine Zidane is reportedly pushing Real Madrid to seal a summer move for 18-year-old LOSC Lille centre-back Leny Yoro, a target for Liverpool.
According to a report by Liverpool Echo, Leny Yoro is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. However, they face stiff competition from Real Madrid, with Zinedine Zidane urging Los Blancos to sign the 18-year-old LOSC Lille defender.
Leny Yoro and his advent
Leny Yoro has become the talk of the town in the transfer market since making his first-team debut for LOSC Lille as a 16-year-old. The teenage sensation has also made his bow for France’s under-23 team, with a senior call-up on the cards.
Meanwhile, Yoro was a mainstay at the back for Lille in the 2023/24 season, turning out 44 times while chipping in with three goals and amassing more than 3,500 minutes of game time. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.
Widespread reports have linked the 18-year-old French defensive sensation with well-known outfits like Manchester United and Chelsea. However, Leny Yoro’s next destination might be Real Madrid, with Liverpool eager to steal a march on Los Blancos in the race to sign the LOSC Lille prodigy.
Where will Yoro ply his trade next season?
Real Madrid’s interest in Leny Yoro is understandable. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30, while Nacho has left the club to pursue a stint in Saudi Arabia. The LOSC Lille wonderkid has thus emerged as a viable target, with Real Madrid reportedly having an agreement with the Frenchman.
That development is a blow for Liverpool, although the Reds are ready to pounce if the move to Real Madrid does not see the light of day. They have lost Joel Matip as a free agent, while Ibrahima Konate blew hot and cold in the 2023/24 season. So, Yoro is an option worth considering for Liverpool. However, a deal will unlikely materialise, with Zinedine Zidane pushing Real Madrid to sign Yoro.
Raphael Varane was the last defender Zidane pushed Real Madrid to sign. The Frenchman was an exceptional servant for Los Blancos, helping them win several major honours during his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. If Yoro is anything like his compatriot, the 18-year-old will be a successful signing for Real Madrid.
