Newcastle United ready to offer €25-30 million to sign Federico Gatti

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Italian international Federico Gatti from Serie A club Juventus in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Federico Gatti is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they are ready to offer around €25-30 million to sign the Italian international from Serie A club Juventus.

Federico Gatti and his rising stock at Juventus

Federico Gatti has made considerable progress since joining Juventus from Frosinone in January 2022. A native of Rivoli, he spent his formative years away from the spotlight before graduating from the youth division at US Alessandria Calcio. However, he struggled for stability before moving to Juventus, representing four clubs in that period.

The 26-year-old has gradually risen in stature to become a mainstay at the back for the Serie A club. Gatti has turned out 63 times thus far for Juventus, chipping in with six goals. In addition, the player’s progress at the Turin outfit has helped him earn a spot in Italy’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, Federico Gatti’s progress at Juventus has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Newcastle United identifying the Italian international as a target.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Federico Gatti is understandable. The Magpies have already sealed the deal to sign one centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Lloyd Kelly set to complete a Bosman move to St. James’ Park. However, they are eager to add another central defender, and for a good reason.

Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees and will not be ready for the start of the 2024/25 season. In addition, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are on the wrong side of 30. So, several centre-backs, including Ronnie Edwards, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Gatti also a viable target. And they are ready to offer €25-30 million to sign the 26-year-old.

The report has suggested that a bid over €30 million might be enough to tempt Juventus to sell the Italian international. However, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can secure Federico Gatti’s services for a slightly lesser sum.
