Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Paulo Dybala

Erik ten Hag reportedly wants Manchester United to sign Paulo Dybala from AS Roma in a deal worth €12 million in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paulo Dybala is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is driving the Premier League club’s move for the World Cup winner, even though his role in the transfer department is reducing. Meanwhile, the AS Roma attacker will cost only €12 million in the summer transfer window due to a release clause in his contract.

Paulo Dybala and his journey in Serie A

Paulo Dybala has established himself as a pivotal figure for AS Roma since arriving from Juventus in a Bosman move in July 2022. The 30-year-old is a veteran of Serie A, having moved to Italy over a decade ago when he joined US Palermo in July 2012. His stock skyrocketed during his spell with Juventus, although it was a topsy-turvy ride in the final years.

The Argentine international has been a productive attacker during his spell with AS Roma thus far. Dybala was exceptional in the 2023/24 season, contributing to 26 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 16 times while providing ten assists.

However, Dybala’s long-term future at AS Roma is uncertain as he has a release clause worth €12 million in his contract with the Giallorossi. The emergence of that information has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has emerged as a target for Manchester United.

Premier League move in the pipeline?

Manchester United’s interest in Paulo Dybala is surprising yet understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. While Manchester United should target a younger alternative, financial issues might force them to pursue a cost-effective candidate.

Dybala is thus a viable target for Manchester United, considering he will cost only €12 million. However, while the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has a meagre release clause, he is currently on €6.5 million-a-year wages and will likely demand a pay rise to join a new club.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United will heed Erik ten Hag’s wishes and pursue the 30-year-old Argentine international in the summer transfer window. He will be a cost-effective signing amid financial issues at Old Trafford.
