Lazio fail with opening bid to sign Mason Greenwood, talks continue

Lazio have failed with an attempt to sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood but their interest remains intact.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio are keen on reinforcing their attack ahead of next season. They are looking for to quality forward who can replace Felipe Anderson and have been in talks to sign Manchester United academy graduate Mason Greenwood.

The Italian giants had already submitted an offer for his services. But, it was deemed to be not good enough by the English club. Despite receiving a setback with their initial offer, Lazio’s interest remains intact and the talks regarding a potential move continue.

Greenwood made a return to football last season with a loan move to Getafe. It was a highly successful spell for the United forward as he scored 10 goals and bagged six assists in his 36 outings. While the 22-year-old is back at Old Trafford, there is no future for him at the club.

Back in the day, Sir Jim Ratcliffe did suggest there was a chance of him getting reinstated in the team. But, they have decided against it, they are looking to cash in on Greenwood and with his contract running out in 12 months it does look like the right decision.

Lazio keen on signing Mason Greenwood

While Juventus are one of the clubs that have been linked with the United forward for some time now, Lazio are the ones who have been making moves in recent weeks to bring the right-winger to the club. They are looking to prepare for life without Felipe Anderson.

The 31-year-old winger decided against extending his stay at the Italian club and will officially be a free agent in a week’s time. The Brazilian international was an integral part of Lazio’s first team setup. With him leaving, they need a quality replacement and Greenwood could be a great long-term acquisition for them.

Lazio’s interest remains intact

They have already been in negotiations with the Manchester-based club to bring the English striker to Italy. According to the report, Lazio had submitted a bid worth £20 million and they have even given United the option to have 50% of his future resale.

But, the offer was turned down as they want £30 million for their 22-year-old forward who is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack. While the negotiations are not easy, Lazio remain in conversation to sign the player and it will be interesting to see if they can make it happen.
