Aston Villa have opened talks to sign Fiorentina defensive sensational Michael Kayode amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report from HITC, Aston Villa want to incorporate a new right-back into their squad. They are interested in the services of Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode and have opened talks to sign the teenage sensational ahead of next season.
Kayode was promoted to the first team of Fiorentina last summer and in his very first full season at the club, he has managed to establish himself as an important part of their team. He was involved in 37 matches across competitions and even contributed towards five goals.
The youngster’s consistent performances in Serie A along with his huge potential have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Tottenham are one of the clubs linked with the Italian youth international.
The North London club are looking to add more depth to the right-back position, with Emerson Royal expected to be on the move. Spurs want to sign a young player who can develop under Ange Postecoglou and Kayode could be an ideal fit. He could cover for Pedro Porro and eventually become a regular in the Tottenham first team.
Aston Villa steal a march on Tottenham
While Tottenham are keen on his signature, Aston Villa have managed to overtake them in the race for the services of the 19-year-old full-back. Matty Cash could part ways with Unai Emery’s team this summer amidst interest from AC Milan.
His departure could leave a void and they are looking at Kayode to help them cope with his absence. The Italian full-back is attacking in nature and can feature on both flanks making him an ideal option for Emery’s team.
The Midlands giants have opened talks with the Serie A club to sign the former Juventus academy player. While the teenager still has four years left on his deal, the report suggests a figure of around £25 million could be enough to prise him away from Fiorentina.
While they have taken the first major step towards signing him, nothing is done at this stage and Spurs are still very much in the picture. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can beat Tottenham to his signature.
