Tottenham Hotspur keen on Yan Couto

Tottenham close to securing priority option for future Johnny Cardoso deal.

Tottenham have set sights on Yan Couto as their new right-back, with Manchester City valuing the player at £40 million.

According to TBR, Tottenham is interested in a move for Yan Couto to be their new right-back this summer. A deal might not be straightforward as Manchester City would like £40 million to sell the Brazilian at the back of a sensational season on loan with Girona.

Tottenham are keen on Yan Couto?

Tottenham are looking at a new right back to add cover and provide competition for places. They are expected to offload Djed Spence and Emerson Royal. The latter does not fit their plans anymore, with AC Milan closing in on the Brazilian

As one Brazilian is set to leave, Tottenham are angling a move for another, with Manchester City’s Yan Couto earmarked as a big target for Ange Postecoglou. The defender can play in multiple positions on the right side, as he featured for more games in a right-midfield role than his customary right-back position.

It’s a useful feature to have on a side, and that might be the reason Postecoglou wants him this summer. However, the big stumbling block will be meeting Manchester City’s asking price of £40 million despite never playing a senior game for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester City has been relentless in its sales of top prospects and will not cede for the £40 million-rated Brazilian defender. Couto also had many other clubs interested, but Man City will unlikely allow a transfer to their direct rivals for the title. However, they might open the door for Spurs to negotiate.

Tottenham yet to decide on their right-back targets

Tottenham might be showing an interest in Couto, as the £40 million-rated Brazilian defender’s versatility might be a big factor. He’s not the only Brazilian they are keen on, as Monaco’s Vanderson remains a target, and Spurs have already made a preliminary enquiry about his availability.

Should they seek a cover for Pedro Porro, who incidentally remains Postecoglou’s first choice in the role, Spurs might only go for a cheaper alternative to focus spending on other key areas of their squad. Hence, as things stand, they are somewhat undecided about their preferred right-back targets, as more names could emerge in the coming period.
