Arsenal, Liverpool in contact over move for Joshua Zirkzee, Manchester United ready to trigger release clause

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A club Bologna this summer.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United are ready to trigger the release clause worth £33.8 million to sign Joshua Zirkzee in the summer transfer window. A separate update has revealed that Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in the Dutch striker, with the two Premier League clubs in contact over a possible move for the Bologna attacker.

Joshua Zirkzee and his soaring stock in Serie A

Joshua Zirkzee has been one of the best young players in Serie A since joining Bologna from Bayern Munich in August 2022. The move has helped the Dutchman find a stable footing in his career after struggling to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Allianz Arena.

Zirkzee was solid in the 2023/24 season, contributing to 19 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. The 23-year-old found the back of the net 12 times while providing seven assists. Meanwhile, the Dutch striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

A man in demand

A report by Graeme Bailey on HITC has claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool are in contact over a possible move for the Bologna striker. The Gunners want a more prolific attacker than Gabriel Jesus, whose output has been dreadful in the last 12 months.

As for Liverpool, Joshua Zirkzee can be a replacement for Darwin Nunez amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of the Uruguayan international. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in the Bologna striker is understandable after losing Anthony Martial as a free agent this summer.

Zirkzee has thus emerged as a viable target, with Manchester United ramping up talks with his entourage in the last few days. The latest update has revealed that the Red Devils are ready to trigger his release clause of £33.8 million to prise him away from the Serie A club in the summer transfer window.

So, Arsenal and Liverpool run the risk of falling behind Manchester United in the race to secure Joshua Zirkzee’s services. It will be interesting to see where the Dutchman plies his trade in the 2024/25 season.
