Newcastle United make progress in contract talks with Alexander Isak

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Newcastle United mainstay Alexander Isak.

According to a report from HITC, Arsenal are keen on acquiring the services of Alexander Isak ahead of next season. But, they have suffered a massive blow as Newcastle United have made progress over a new deal with the Swedish international.

The Magpies forked out £60 million to sign Isak from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has gone from strength to strength since arriving at the club. While Newcastle struggled during the 2023/24 campaign because of an injury crisis, the 24-year-old was one of their standout players for them.

In his 30 league outings, he found the back of the net on 21 occasions and even had two assists to his name. Isak’s performances have not gone unnoticed as multiple rival clubs are interested in prising him away from the Magpies.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who are interested in the Swedish international. Mikel Arteta is not happy with the output of his forwards and wants to sign a new number nine before the start of the season. He wants someone who can guarantee goals and has a strong physical presence. Alexander Isak could be an ideal fit for the Spanish manager’s system.

Newcastle United closing in on a deal with Isak

While the Gunners have shown interest in his services, they are unlikely to get their hands on him. The Magpies have no intentions of negotiating his departure. More importantly, they are ready to offer Alexander Isak a new deal with improved terms which will be a major blow to Arsenal’s dream of signing him.

Isak’s current deal runs until the summer of 2028. While there are still four years left, the Tyneside club are willing to offer him another new deal with better wages on the back of his impressive performances. He is not amongst their top earners at this point, and Newcastle United are ready to offer him a deal that will make him the top earner at the club.

Newcastle have been in talks with the player’s representatives and want to get the deal done before the next season gets underway. The Magpies want to ensure they secure the future of their star players and have made progress in contract talks with Alexander Isak, who is considered an integral part of their plans moving ahead.
