Lazio initiate discussions to sign Mason Greenwood

Serie A giants Lazio and Manchester United are reportedly in talks over a deal worth an initial £30 million for 22-year-old attacker Mason Greenwood.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Mason Greenwood is the subject of interest from Lazio. The Serie A giants are keen on bolstering their offensive department in the summer transfer window. And they are progressing their talks to sign the 22-year-old Manchester United academy graduate in a deal worth an initial £30 million.

The rise and fall of Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood was the talk of the town when he broke into the first-team squad at Manchester United a few years ago. One of the most talented young prospects to have emerged from the Premier League club’s fabled academy, the Englishman promised a bright long-term future for the offensive department alongside Marcus Rashford.

However, an off-field controversy involving his partner threatened to derail his career. While Greenwood is back in the game, the issue has ended his Manchester United career, with the Red Devils ready to cash in on him as soon as possible. However, a successful loan stint with Getafe has helped the 22-year-old academy graduate earn many suitors.

The former English international contributed to 16 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for Getafe, finding the back of the net ten times while providing six assists. Greenwood also won the Spanish club’s Player of the Year award. However, his next destination might be Serie A, with Lazio joining the race to sign him.

Serie A move in the pipeline?

Mason Greenwood does not have a shortage of suitors from Serie A, with widespread reports linking him with Napoli and Juventus. While the latter recently cooled the interest in the 22-year-old Manchester United academy graduate, Lazio will compete with Napoli for the player’s signature.

The report by Daily Mail has revealed that Lazio and Manchester United are in talks over a deal worth an initial £30 million for Greenwood. With Ciro Immobile approaching the twilight of his career, the exiled Manchester United forward can be a long-term successor at the Serie A club.

With talks between Manchester United and Lazio progressing well, the youngster might move to Stadio Olimpico soon. However, it will be interesting to see if some other club can hijack the deal, with Valencia recently showing interest in the Manchester United academy graduate.
