Aston Villa hatch ploy to sign Pedro Goncalves

Aston Villa have come up with a plan as they look to sign Sporting CP star Pedro Goncalves ahead of next season.

According to O Jogo via SportWitness, Aston Villa are keen on bolstering their attack in the summer and have their eyes set on Pedro Goncalves. The Sporting CP attacker has been in exceptional form and Villa have prepared a plan to prise him away from the Portuguese club.

Gonclaves’ sensational rise at Sporting CP

Goncalves had an exceptional 2023/24 season where he contributed towards 35 goals (18 goals, 17 assists). He played a big part in their success in the league and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

He has been at the peak of his power under Ruben Amorim who has used him through the centre as well as on the left flank. The Portuguese attacking midfielder has had two sensational seasons in a row which is a clear indication of the talent he possesses.

On the back of his 70-goal contributions over the last two seasons, there is no shortage of interest in him. Amorim considers him to be an integral part of his first team setup and doesn’t intend on losing him. But, Sporting CP’s financial situation could make things interesting.

Aston Villa secured Champions League football by finishing fourth last season and are now looking to reinforce their attack. Unai Emery’s team are the ones who have a long-standing interest in Goncalves and are not willing to give up on their pursuit of his services.

Villa’s plan to sign Goncalves

While a deal for the 25-year-old won’t be easy as he has three years left on his contract, Villa have come up with a ploy to bring him to the Premier League. They are willing to play the waiting game.

Emery’s team will look to make a move towards the end of the transfer window after ensuring their finances are in order to strike a deal. They will look to understand the player’s situation and will pick the best time to move forward.

When the time is right, they will advance with an attractive offer to lure him to the Premier League. While the Portuguese international is quite happy at Sporting, the opportunity to play in the English top flight and a much bigger paycheck could change things.
