Tottenham make preliminary approach for Vanderson

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco defender Vanderson in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade, Tottenham Hotspur have now made an approach for Brazilian international Vanderson. AS Monaco will demand around €40 million to part ways with the full-back.

The 22-year-old defender has impressed with his performances in Ligue 1, and he could certainly prove to be a quality addition for Tottenham. Emerson Royal has been linked with a move away from the club, and they are looking at the Brazilian as a potential replacement.

Vanderson is valued at €40 million, and the Brazilian international will want to play regularly. It seems unlikely that he would be keen on accepting a backup role at Tottenham. Pedro Porro is currently the first-choice right-back at the North London club.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. There is no doubt that Vanderson would be a quality acquisition for the Premier League side. But convincing him to join without assurances of regular starting opportunities could prove to be difficult.

Meanwhile, Spurs will have to improve the other areas of their squad as well, and spending €40 million on a backup defender might not seem like a wise decision. They must look to sign a quality central defender this summer.

Vanderson would be a quality signing

Vanderson certainly has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League, and he could add a new dimension to their attack. Apart from his abilities as a defender, that 22-year-old is quite impressive going forward.

Vanderson’s crossing and distribution skills could prove to be invaluable in the final third. Similarly, Porro has been quite impressive for Tottenham going forward. It seems unlikely that Ange Postecoglou will certainly drop the Spanish international and hand a starting role to the Brazilian especially after the way Porro performed last season.

It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few weeks. Even though Tottenham have made an approach for the Brazilian defender, a summer move seems quite unlikely given the circumstances.
