Real Madrid will not cough up more than €25-30 million to sign 23-year-old Canadian international Alphonso Davies from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich.
According to Fabrizio Romano, as relayed by Madrid Xtra, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. However, the Merengues are not ready to shell out more than €25-30 million to sign the 23-year-old full-back from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
Alphonso Davies and his Bayern Munich journey
Alphonso Davies took little time to establish himself as a pivotal figure for Bayern Munich after arriving from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. The Canadian international has done all that while transforming from a highly-rated winger to a marauding left-back soon after completing his move.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed tremendous success with Bayern Munich, winning multiple trophies, including the treble in the 2019/20 season. Davies has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for the Bavarian outfit, chipping in with 11 goals and 31 assists. However, the player’s long-term future at the Bundesliga club is uncertain due to his contract situation.
Davies will enter the final year of his contract on July 1, and talks over a new deal have not progressed much. That has compelled Bayern Munich to consider selling him in the summer transfer window. However, they might keep hold of the player for another year while taking the risk of his departure as a free agent. Meanwhile, the situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
The Real Madrid links
Real Madrid’s interest in Alphonso Davies is understandable. The Merengues are keen on signing a left-back in the summer transfer window despite Ferland Mendy’s exploits. Davies is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, although the asking price might pose an issue for the reigning La Liga champions.
The Merengues are not ready to cough up more than €25-30 million to sign the Bayern Munich full-back. However, it is unclear if the Bundesliga club will accept such a fee for the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich will likely keep Davies at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window, hoping to seal an agreement over a new contract. However, if that does not materialise, a free transfer might see the light of day next year.
