Arsenal set to make approach for Victor Osimhen in next few days

Arsenal will soon approach Serie A club Napoli over a possible move for 25-year-old Nigerian international Victor Osimhen.

According to a report by Area Napoli, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are scouring the market for a top-class striker heading into the summer transfer window. And the Premier League heavyweights are ready to establish contacts over a move for the Nigerian international in the next few days.

The rise and rise of Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been among the best strikers in the world in the last few years. The 25-year-old was already a highly-rated prospect during his stints with VfL Wolfsburg and LOSC Lille. However, he has taken his performances to the next level since joining Napoli in September 2020, establishing himself as one of the finest players in Serie A.

The Nigerian international was instrumental in ending Napoli’s excruciating wait of over three decades to win the Serie A title in the 2022/23 campaign. However, the Partenopei and the players endured a drop in performances in the 2023/24 season. Osimhen managed only 17 goals and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

However, Osimhen’s spell with Napoli might end in the summer transfer window, as he is keen on moving to the Premier League. Clubs from other leagues, including Paris Saint-Germain, also want to sign the Napoli talisman. However, his next destination might be England, with Arsenal among his prospective suitors.

London calling?

Arsenal’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. The Gunners are keen on signing a prolific striker in the summer transfer window due to Gabriel Jesus’s lack of productivity in front of the goal. In addition, Eddie Nketiah tends to blow hot and cold and will likely leave Arsenal in the coming weeks.

So, it behoves Arsenal to invest in a top-class striker, with Osimhen emerging as a top target. The Gunners are ready to establish contacts over a move for the Napoli striker in the “next few days”. However, triggering the Nigerian international’s hefty release clause is not an option for Arsenal.

Nevertheless, contacts should begin in the coming days, with a summer move on the cards. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can compel Napoli to lower the asking price for the 25-year-old when talks over a deal begin.
