Liverpool fail with €50 million bid to sign Leny Yoro

Liverpool recently submitted a bid worth €50 million to sign LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro, a target for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Leny Yoro is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Merseyside club offered €50 million to sign the LOSC Lille defender, a target for Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, Les Dogues rejected the bid, demanding around €60 million to sell the French defensive sensation.

The rapid rise of Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world this season. A graduate of the youth division at LOSC Lille, the youngster made his first-team debut for the Ligue 1 club as a 16-year-old two years ago. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, becoming the latest highly-rated French prospect to rise in prominence.

The 18-year-old was a mainstay at the back for LOSC Lille in the 2023/24 season, amassing more than 3,500 minutes of game time across 44 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with three goals. Meanwhile, Yoro’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

A man in demand

Liverpool will delve into the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window after losing Joel Matip as a free agent. The French defender has thus emerged as a viable target for the Merseyside club, although recent reports have claimed that the Reds are losing hope in the chase. The latest update has pointed to a bid worth €50 million, with Lille rejecting the offer.

Les Dogues will demand around €60 million to part ways with the 18-year-old Frenchman, although it is unclear if Liverpool will meet that valuation. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Leny Yoro is understandable. The Red Devils want to sign a centre-back after losing Raphael Varane as a free agent.

Yoro has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. As for Real Madrid, recent reports have claimed they are not ready to cough up €60 million to secure the youngster’s services. However, the teenage defensive sensation is an option worth considering for Real Madrid amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Nacho.

The price tag of €60 million might pose a problem for the suitors. So, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid can reach a common ground with LOSC Lille. The French defensive prospect might not ply his trade at the Ligue 1 club next season.
