Jose Mourinho reportedly wants his new club, Fenerbahce, to sign his compatriot and Barcelona target Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. Jose Mourinho is driving the Turkish club’s move for the Portuguese international as he wants his compatriot at the Ulker Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. The Atletico Madrid outcast is also a target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.
Joao Felix and his Atletico Madrid travails
Joao Felix did not fulfil his potential after joining Atletico Madrid from Benfica in a much-hyped big-money move in July 2019. The 24-year-old has blown hot and cold throughout the half-decade previous, spending the last 18 months away from the Civitas Metropolitano on two loan spells.
Chelsea signed him for the second half of the 2022/23 season before Barcelona completed a season-long loan deal on Deadline Day last summer. Felix remained inconsistent at the Catalan club but contributed to 16 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net ten times while providing six assists.
However, the Portuguese international has returned to Atletico Madrid after his loan spell with Barcelona. But his long-term future is uncertain, with Barcelona struggling for funds. There have been talks of a swap deal involving Vitor Roque. However, that will unlikely see the light of day. The latest update has revealed Fenerbahce’s interest in Joao Felix.
Turkish adventure in the pipeline?
Fenerbahce’s interest in Joao Felix is understandable. Jose Mourinho wants to transform the Turkish club’s squad in the summer transfer window and has identified several high-profile players. Recent reports have linked Fenerbahce with Victor Lindelof, Mason Greenwood, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Felix has now emerged as a viable target for the Turkish giants, with Mourinho pushing them to bring him compatriot to the Ulker Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. However, with Barcelona pushing for the Portuguese attacker’s signature, a transfer battle is on the cards.
Fenerbahce might have more funds to tempt Atletico Madrid to sell the 24-year-old to them. However, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can raise the required money to retain Joao Felix’s services beyond the summer transfer window.
