Bayern Munich open to negotiating with Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt

Bayern Munich might open their doors to negotiate with Manchester United for the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt, with Erik ten Hag keen.

According to Caught Offside, Bayern Munich could be ready to open negotiation channels with Manchester United for 24-year-old Bundesliga winner Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman could leave the Bavarians for he feels the need for an important role at the club, something he could get under Erik ten Hag.

Bayern Munich ready to negotiate for Matthijs de Ligt

Bayern Munich are prepared to be aggressive in this transfer window, and that might stretch towards some of their prospective sales. Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly placed on the list of players who are deemed dispensable this summer, as some reports have suggested the Bavarians want at least £70 million to sell the 24-year-old.

It’s only been two seasons that the Dutchman has spent, winning the Bundesliga on one occasion. He had lost his place under Thomas Tuchel in the second part of last season after Eric Dier’s arrival from Tottenham, and should the situation remain the same, then the defender might consider his options. In fact, intermediaries have already offered him to several Premier League sides, including Manchester United

Erik ten Hag wants a reunion with his former Ajax player as Manchester United seeks a top-class option to replace the departing Raphael Varane in their squad. De Ligt might be seen as the ideal player to start alongside Lisandro Martinez next season, as Bayern Munich are open to begin negotiations and discuss terms with suitors.

Manchester United have held internal discussions about De Ligt, but Bayern’s asking price may prove difficult for them to match before sales. Either way, the 24-year-old is away with the Netherlands at the Euros, meaning any transfer might have to wait until the tournament in Germany ends. Either way, he’s a player high on the Red Devils’ list of new defenders, as things could progress from here on.

Manchester United’s other centre-back targets

Apart from De Ligt, Manchester United do have other notable names on their shortlist of new centre-backs. LOSC Lille youngster Leny Yoro is a target, and there have been an approach made by the Red Devils to sign the teenager in the coming period, although they might be trailing Real Madrid in the chase.

There’s also Jean-Clair Todibo, who is an interesting player for Manchester United. The presence of INEOS, who are also important stakeholders at OGC Nice, might create a pathway for the French defender to come in. Either way, the Red Devils are looking for an important centre-back addition to replace Varane, and in this hunt, De Ligt is a big target like the others.
