Manchester United ready to sell Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof

Manchester United are reportedly willing to entertain offers to sell long-serving defensive duo Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof face an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are ready to listen to offers for the long-serving defensive duo as they attempt to make room for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, their top target.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof: From first-choice defenders to 2024 summer exit?

Harry Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in a record deal in August 2019. The English international made an immediate impact at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer installing him as the club captain midway through the 2019/20 season. However, he saw his stock falling in Erik ten Hag’s debut season at the club.

The 31-year-old became a bit-part player for the Red Devils before regaining his place in the 2023/24 campaign. Maguire amassed nearly 2,500 minutes of game time across 31 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals and two assists. As for Victor Lindelof, he has been with Manchester United since July 2017, arriving from SL Benfica.

The Swede was the undisputed first-choice centre-back for Manchester United several years ago but has become a backup option in the last few seasons. He has turned out over 250 times thus far for Manchester United, chipping in with four goals and seven assists. However, the 29-year-old might have played his final game for Manchester United.

Summer departure on the cards?

The latest update has revealed that Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are surplus to requirements at Manchester United. The Red Devils are ready to part ways with the long-serving defensive duo as they prepare to bring Jarrad Branthwaite to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Lindelof does not have a shortage of suitors, with the latest reports linking him with Fenerbahce. As for Maguire, Manchester United have considered a part-exchange deal involving the Englishman, with Branthwaite arriving at Old Trafford and the former captain heading the other way.

However, selling the long-serving defensive duo might hurt Manchester United. Raphael Varane has left the Red Devils, while Jonny Evans is only good enough to be an emergency option. So, cashing in on the two centre-backs is not a sensible decision.
