Genoa have decided to sign Djed Spence in a permanent deal and have sent a formal offer for Tottenham to consider.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Genoa have submitted a formal offer to sign Djed Spence from Tottenham. The 23-year-old outcast spent the last six months with the Italian side on loan, and although they have an option to buy the right-back, the Serie A side may have submitted a proposal that was lower than the agreed sum.
Genoa made Djed Spence bid
Djed Spence could call time on his Tottenham career, as he may have found his rhythm while on loan with Genoa in the last six months. The defender was a key part of their performances since January, making 16 league appearances after making the move to Italy.
Spurs offered Spence to Genoa as part of their deal to sign Radu Dragusin in January, and the Grifone have now made a formal offer to sign him on a permanent deal. The Serie A outfit have been in talks with Tottenham about a deal, although they had a buy option rumoured to be around €10 million as part of the loan agreement.
While initial reports stated there were negotiations to conclude the loan-to-buy deal, the fact that Genoa have submitted a formal offer indicates they wish to avoid paying the €10 million written in the agreement. As of now, the 23-year-old outcast will return to Spurs once his loan deal expires at the end of the month, and the Serie A side will be free to negotiate a separate agreement.
The details of their bid are not clear at this moment, although the offer might be lower than the buy option on his loan deal. Spence might be open to joining the Italians on a permanent deal, as the 23-year-old outcast does not have a place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
Tottenham’s changes at right-back
Tottenham are keen on shaking things up in the right-back spot, and while Spence had no place in their plans anyway, they will have no issues selling him. Beyond him, Emerson Royal is closing in on a move to AC Milan, as Postecoglou is ready to offload the inconsistent Brazilian from his squad, with Spurs keen to sell him for €20 million.
They are chasing AS Monaco’s Vanderson as a replacement for Royal, with the Brazilian reportedly keen on the project under Postecoglou. Overall, the manager wants a solid competitor for first-choice starter Pedro Porro, who will return for pre-season training as he was a surprise exclusion from the Spanish squad for the Euros.
