Vincent Kompany pushing Bayern Munich to sign Joe Gomez

Bayern Munich’s new boss Vincent Kompany has asked for the signing of Liverpool defensive star Joe Gomez.

According to a report from The Mirror, Bayern Munich want to add more depth to their defence in the upcoming transfer window and they have their eyes on Joe Gomez. The English international was sensational for Liverpool last season and the German club wants to take him away from Anfield.

Gomez has been a part of Liverpool’s first team setup since the summer of 2015. He has slowly established himself there and has just enjoyed his best season for the Reds. The 27-year-old featured in as many as 51 games last term and he even contributed towards three goals.

He was used in the heart of the defence, as a full-back and even in a holding role in the midfield. Gomez did an excellent job every time he took to the field and his consistency has been rewarded as he has won his place in the England team back. The Liverpool defender is currently preparing for the Euros that get underway in a few days.

Kompany wants Gomez at Bayern

While the player is focused on the job at hand, the interest in his services is increasing with the transfer window closing in. Bayern Munich have been linked with the English international. Vincent Kompany who has just taken over as their new manager is keen on reinforcing their backline in the summer.

He is looking to make the necessary changes to ensure they are back at their best next season. He wants to add more depth to his defence. Kompany likes Liverpool’s Gomez and has asked for his signing. The 27-year-old’s ability to feature in multiple roles is what attracts the former Manchester City skipper’s interest.

He feels the Liverpool mainstay could become an important part of their project at Bayern moving ahead. While Bayern will try their best to fulfil their manager’s request, the German club are not going to find it easy. Gomez’s contract runs until the summer of 2027 and they view him as an important part of their plans moving ahead under the new boss Arne Slot, as a result, the Reds are unlikely to sanction his departure.
