Tottenham unlikely to trigger £65 million Dominic Solanke release clause

Tottenham are reportedly moving away from their chase of Dominic Solanke as they do not want to trigger his £65 million release clause.

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are unlikely to trigger the £65 million release clause to sign Dominic Solanke, as they could view that as an expensive price tag. Spurs are eager to bring in a new centre-forward in the summer and have considered many names, including the Arsenal striker target.

Tottenham unlikely to make Dominic Solanke move

Tottenham are in the market for a new striker in the close season, as Ange Postecoglou wants to add goals to his attacking setup. They have had to rely heavily on Son Heung-min in the centre-forward role. Richarlison endured another disappointing campaign since making his big-money move from Everton two years ago.

While they are open to ideas about different names, Spurs might be mindful about overspending on specific targets, as they have a set budget, which means they will need to bring a whole lot of players. Hence, they are not interested in triggering Dominic Solanke’s massive £65 million release clause.

Many credible sources have confirmed the news of the release clause, as Bournemouth seem protected for the striker who scored 21 goals last season. He does have the interest of Newcastle United, while Arsenal were also considered a prominent suitor for his signature not too long ago.

The Gunners have decided to bring a younger forward to the squad, meaning Tottenham might have had a good run at Solanke had they chosen to pay his release clause. As things stand, they are out of the running and will continue to look elsewhere for their striker requirement.

Who can Tottenham sign instead of Solanke?

Serhou Guirassy has been linked lately, with the Stuttgart striker carrying a modest £17.5 million release clause in his contract. He also fits their mould well, as his experience and goalscoring prowess are precisely what Postecoglou wants to add to his side ahead of a big season in the Premier League and Europe.

Tottenham are eager to make their first signing before the month’s end, and that could be a striker of some sort. Ivan Toney is another name on their shortlist, and as per some recent reports, they are willing to pay around £40 million to sign him. However, as for their Solanke chase, it is over by a long mile, and it will be interesting to watch who features next on their radar.
