Fulham eyeing Florentino Luis as Joao Palhinha replacement

Fulham are reportedly considering a move for Florentino Luis as a replacement for Bayern Munich-linked Joao Palhinha.

According to Give Me Sport, Fulham could consider Florentino Luis as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha. Marco Silva feels the need to bring a replacement for the Portuguese international, who is continuing to inch closer to a switch to Bayern Munich.

Florentino Luis on Fulham’s radar

Fulham are called into action to bring in a new midfielder as Joao Palhinha has seen his previous links to Bayern Munich rekindled and could be bound for Germany soon. The Euros might delay any imminent transfer to the Allianz Arena. However, he is sure to leave the Cottagers in this window, with many more clubs chasing the midfielder’s signature.

While Palhinha had a host of clubs chasing, Fabrizio Romano insists Bayern Munich are not scared and have already reached an agreement on personal terms. Ahead of the Portuguese international’s impending departure, Marco Silva may have to find a suitable replacement for his hard-tackling midfield enforcer, as Florentino Luis is now linked with a move.

The Benfica midfielder boasts a style and tough-tackling profile similar to Palhinha’s, as he might be considered the ideal replacement for Marco Silva. Now, things will depend on the Portuguese club’s asking price, as they tend to have a good enough release clause in place for their homegrown stars.

The 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been a major part of Benfica’s success in recent years, although the team collectively had a lousy season last time out. Should an opportunity arrive to join a Premier League side, Luis might consider the chance, even if it is Fulham and not some other big sides.

Fulham face competition for Luis

Fulham may not have a clear path towards signing Luis ahead of the summer, as there are some other sides keen. Everton failed with a bid in January and could rekindle their interest should they end up losing Amadou Onana in the summer.

The same goes for Aston Villa, who had previously shown an interest and could re-enter the conversation should they lose their enforcer Douglas Luiz, who remains linked with Juventus as of today. Hence, Fulham will have to act swiftly in the market to secure the 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder before some of their English counterparts make their presence felt in the race.
