Everton considering Tammy Abraham summer swoop

Everton will reportedly compete with Tottenham and Newcastle United to sign 26-year-old English striker Tammy Abraham from Serie A club AS Roma this summer.

According to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tammy Abraham is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window. However, the Merseyside club will face stiff competition from Tottenham and Newcastle United for the 26-year-old AS Roma striker.

Tammy Abraham and his topsy-turvy ride in Serie A

Tammy Abraham took no time to establish himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A after joining AS Roma from Chelsea in August 2021. The Englishman enjoyed an exceptional 2021/22 campaign, helping the Giallorossi win the UEFA Europa Conference League. However, his stock has fallen since then.

The 26-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup at the Serie A club in the last two years, while a long-term knee injury curtailed his progress. Abraham thus managed only 642 minutes of game time across 24 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and two assists.

However, after losing his spot in the starting lineup, the English striker might return to England this summer. Abraham does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Everton joining Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the race to sign him from AS Roma.

A man in demand

Everton’s interest in Tammy Abraham is understandable. The Toffees are in a spot of bother over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-term future. Recent reports have linked the Englishman with Chelsea, with talks over a new contract not progressing much. So, it behoves Everton to invest in a striker, with the AS Roma man emerging as a viable target.

As for Tottenham, they are keen on signing a striker after not replacing Harry Kane with a like-for-like replacement. The AS Roma attacker is thus an option worth considering for Tottenham. Meanwhile, Newcastle United will also look to prise the Englishman away from the Serie A club this summer.

The Tyneside club might part ways with Callum Wilson in the summer transfer window. So, Abraham is a viable target for Newcastle United. Everton will thus face stiff competition for the 26-year-old English striker’s services.
